I visited the construction site today and spoke with Don the foreman of the project. He told me that the grading of the site was underway and the fill was arriving this week.

Once the fill has been added to the site the remainder of the of the team arrives and the park will begin to take shape. We are definitely in good shape with the team that is here to build the site. They have personally build hundreds of parks around the country and are very excited to be here to build ours.

If you visit the skate park site you will see the outline of the park itself. It is bigger than I pictured it. I just may have to get myself a skateboard. Well maybe I’ll just wait for the benches to go in and be a skateboard spectator.

Construction Team Arrives in Livingston

Traveling all the way from Missouri the construction team building the skate park has arrived. The construction fencing has gone up at the skate park site. The first of the heavy equipment is ready to start excavating and preparing the ground for the truckloads of dirt and concrete that will become a state do the art skating facility.

Skate Park Rules & Regulations Meeting to be Held on May 1st

On Saturday, May 1st at 10:00 am, there will be a town-wide informational meeting regarding the use and governance of the Livingston Municipal Skate Park. The meeting will take place at the Livingston Senior and Community Center located at 204 Hillside Avenue. The Skate Park Committee will brief the Livingston residents on the details of the Township’s first facility built specifically for use by skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMX riders. The Committee will discuss the rules and regulations that will govern the Livingston Skate Park. Once the rules are adopted they will become a town ordinance. The motto of the park is “Respect Gets Respect” which will be proudly enforced.

The Committee welcomes all Livingston residents and urges its skaters to attend. This is their opportunity to have a say on how the park is to be governed. The proposed rules and regulations are posted for review right here. In addition to the rules and regulations, there will be information about how residents can register and sign up to get their helmet sticker that will be required for use of the skate park.

The long awaited construction of the Livingston Municipal Skate Park begins on April 19th. The skate park committee along with the skaters are very excited to see the construction begin. Earlier this week the the area where the park will be built was staked out for the upcoming construction team.

We have also seen the almost final plans for the park. Please note that this design still shows the Bowl that was to be part of the park. After careful consideration and input from the skaters we decided that a mini-ramp would be a better choice. We need about $16,000.00 to add the mini-ramp during the construction of the park. Keep a lookout for upcoming fund-raising efforts to get this mini-ramp built.

We will be having a a rules meeting at the Community Center at 10am. This is a meeting to discuss the rules & regulations that govern the Livingston skate board & BMX park and once adopted will become a town ordinance. So everyone who has something to say should be there. This is your chance to have a say on how the park is to be governed. Check out the Skate Park Rules page to have a look at the rules that will be adopted by the Town Counsel.

If you have passed by the location for the Livingston Skate Park in recent weeks you may have noticed that it was under water. Well thanks to the amazing public works department the drainage problem was fixed and we are happy to report that the ground is mostly dry and awaiting the arrival of the construction team that will begin the process on April 19 of constructing the skate plaza.

It’s Official! Livingston Municipal Skatepark Construction to Start April 19

On Thursday, March 25, 2010 there was a pre-construction meeting for the Livingston Municipal Skate Park. It was held at the Senior Community Center between the Town engineers, Township Public Works and Police departments, and Hardcore Shotcrete Skateparks Inc. (a division of American Ramp Company), the contractor building the skate park. The skate park is designed to be a state of the art facility and a nationwide standard of how a skate park works within a community.

In attendance were: Chris Fredricks – Project Manager representing Hardcore Shotcrete Skateparks Inc. (the contractor), Richard Calbi – Livingston Township Engineer, Robert Bocchino- Livingston Township Assistant Engineer, Jennifer Hernandez – Livingston Township Safety Inspector, Gary Callahan – representing Schwanewede/Hals Engineering outside consultant to Livingston Township, Mike Anello – Livingston Township Superintendent of Public Works, Jennifer Hessberger – Livingston Township Director of Senior, Youth & Leisure Services, Tim Roetman – Livingston Township Youth Coordinator, Captain Jeffrey Paine – Livingston Township Police department, and Robert Allen & Alan Karpas – co-chairs of the Livingston Township Skate Park Committee.

The official start date of construction of the skate park is Monday, April 19, 2010 with a completion date of Wednesday, June 9, 2010. The schedule of operations and regular progress reports will be posted on the skate park website. The rules & regulations are being reviewed by the township attorney and Town Council for approval. When they are adopted a town meeting will be scheduled.

The Skate Park committee has raised $92,000 from two eBay street sign auctions and individual contributors which is being allotted to the first phase of construction including design, building and associated costs. However, the committee must raise an additional $16,000 to finish the park including a mini-ramp that was originally planned. It was left off of the original bid because the committee did not have the necessary funding. There is a substantial savings in construction costs if the mini-ramp is built this Spring. If we add this component at a later date the cost could be almost double. The committee welcomes sponsors and donations from local businesses and residents to support this long-awaited destination. The fundraising effort continues to ensure a beautiful landscape for the entire community to enjoy.

Skate Park Contract Awarded – Park to be Built Spring 2010

On Monday December 21, 2009 the Livingston Town Counsel awarded the contract for the construction of the Livingston Skate Park to the American Ramp Company. In the coming weeks we will be having a rules meeting where we will begin to set the policies of the skate park. Construction of the skate park will begin as soon as all of the paperwork is finished and the weather breaks in the spring. We look forward to having a state of the art skate park that will sure to be a favorite of our skateboarders in the community.

Bid for Livingston Municipal Skate Park Begins

The Livingston Skate Park Committee under the auspices of the Healthy Community-Healthy Youth Initiative (HCHY) is pleased to announce that the Mayor and Council of the Township of Livingston has put the final design and engineered plans for the Livingston Municipal Skate Park out to bid (Bid No. 032-2009). Bids are to be received no later than 11:00am on September 10th at which time they will be opened and read aloud in conference room 115 at 204 Hillside Avenue.

The future home of the skate park/plaza will be the site between the Police Department and the West Essex YMCA. Upon accepted bid the Township should be able to award the construction contract by the end of September.
